Meet our Governors

boarder

Mr P Orth – Chair Of Governors

Since retiring from St. Mary’s as a teacher in 2015. I have continued to work on the Governing body, mainly in the capacity as vice-chair. I have served continuously on the Buildings, Finance and Personnel committee as well as the Curriculum committee and occasionally on the Safeguarding committee. I have also helped out with a number of other items of official governor business when requested. In 2018 I was approached to become the Chair of Governors at another primary school in the authority and I have been fulfilling this obligation ever since.

Mr S Glynn – Vice Chair

I’ve lived in Deane for the past 30 years and have worked as a Construction Site Manager for the past 20 years and before that as a site operative for 15 years. I am married to Julie who is a teaching assistant at the school. We have three children Laura, Mark and Lucy and they have all attended St Mary’s in the past. Laura and Mark are both working and Lucy is now in college. In my spare time, I like DIY and building things around the house/garden, with more projects planned.

Mrs J Powell

I have worked for the past fourteen years as a speech and language therapist in the NHS.  Over the years, I have developed specific interests around working within mainstream schools, complex needs and bilingualism.  More recently, I have found myself working as a highly specialist SLT within child and adolescent mental health services with young people predominantly with neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism, ADHD and Learning Difficulties.  For the past four years, I have also worked in independent practice outside of the NHS.

Miss S McEwan

I attended St Mary’s as a pupil, so the school has always been special to me. I later returned and am now in my fourth year, currently in my third year of teaching Year 4. I have enjoyed developing my role within school and taking on additional responsibilities, which has allowed me to be involved in different aspects of school life. I thoroughly enjoy working at St Mary’s and feel proud to support the school as a Staff Governor.

Mr D Hawksworth

I started as a Governor in 2005 at St Mary’s C of E Primary school, initially as a Parent Governor, then Vice Chair and Chair, a position I feel honoured and privileged to have held. I stepped down as Chair in October 2023 after 9 years after retiring from my job as a business manager with a national electrical wholesaler. I bring my experience of Governance alongside my business experience to help in areas such as finance. In 2024, the school retained its outstanding grading first gained in 2017 from Ofsted which is testimony to the incredible hard work and dedication of our Head teacher , the SLT, teachers and support staff who work tirelessly to meet the children’s educational and emotional needs. I am married to Nicola who was previously an HLTA Teaching assistant at the school but has now retired. We have one daughter, Keeley, who is a previous pupil at the school and who graduated with a degree from Edge Hill University in Criminology and Psychology and now works for a national law firm. My hobbies include most sports in particular cricket, which I played for many years, walking our 5 year old Shizu Willow and I am also a lifelong Bolton Wanderers fan.
