Sport Premium

What is the Sports Premium?
The funding is a ring-fenced grant for English primary schools to provide additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE, sport and physical activity. Allocations to schools are determined by pupil numbers.
Other uses of the funding:
- Improve the quality of PE: The funding is intended to help schools enhance the teaching and learning of PE, enabling teachers to deliver high-quality physical education lessons. This may include upskilling teachers through professional development programs or hiring specialist PE teachers to improve the overall quality of instruction.
- Increase participation in physical activities: The initiative seeks to encourage more children to participate in regular physical activities and sports. Schools can use the funding to provide a wider range of sports and extracurricular activities, offer taster sessions for different sports, or promote sports clubs outside of school hours.
- Promote healthy lifestyles: The UK Sports Premium aims to promote healthy lifestyles and raise awareness of the importance of physical activity among children. Schools can use the funding to educate students about the benefits of regular exercise, nutrition, and overall well-being.
- Foster inclusive sports provision: The initiative emphasizes the importance of making sports accessible to all students, regardless of their background or abilities. The funding can be used to provide opportunities for students with disabilities or special educational needs to participate in sports and physical activities.
- Measure and demonstrate impact: Schools are encouraged to measure the impact of the Sports Premium funding on students’ physical education and sports participation. This may involve tracking students’ progress, monitoring increased levels of physical activity, or evaluating the effectiveness of interventions funded by the initiative
